The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) is an Indian government body in India established under the Directorate General of Health Services, part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare India. It was mandate to facilitate and regulate organ and tissue donation and transplantation across the country, addressing the critical shortage of available organs for patients in need [1][2]

Objectives and Functions

NOTTO is dedicated to creating a comprehensive framework that governs the procurement, distribution, and transplantation of organs and tissues. Its primary objectives include:

Streamlining Organ Procurement: NOTTO aims to develop efficient systems for the retrieval of organs, especially from deceased donors, ensuring that these processes are both effective and ethically sound.

Raising Public Awareness: The organization undertakes various initiatives to educate the public about the significance of organ donation, encouraging individuals to consider pledging their organs posthumously.

Building a National Network: NOTTO is responsible for establishing a cohesive network that connects regional and state-level organizations (ROTTOs and SOTTOs), facilitating better coordination in organ donation and transplantation efforts.

Training Healthcare Professionals: The organization emphasizes the importance of training for medical staff involved in organ donation and transplantation, ensuring they possess the necessary expertise to identify potential donors and manage transplant procedures.
