Nkima Clan is clan in Buganda with the totem of a monkey as "Nkima" is a Luganda word meaning monkey. The Nkima Clan originated in Ssese Island. The clan leader is Mugema.[citation needed]
Origin[edit]
After Kabaka Kintu disappeared, his son Kabaka Chwa I succeeded him. Kabaka Chwa I also got a son and named him Kalemeera. Since Kabaka Chwa I was scared of disappearing like his father Kabaka Kintu, he always kept watch over his son Kalemeera everywhere he went.
Kabaka Chwa I then decided to send his son to Bunyoro Kingdom. While Kalemeera was in Bunyoro Kingdom, his uncle King Winyi lodged him with his principal wife Wannyana of the Nsenene(Grasshopper) Clan. Kalemeera committed adultery with Wannyana, King Winy's wife by getting intimate with her. When this happened, this was reported to the King Winyi. In fear for his life, Kalemeera escaped to exile and the child Wannyana delivered was named Kimera. Kimera was looked after by Mugema who preserved him and was his caretaker. Unfortunately, Kalemeera died in exile before reaching home and Kabaka Chwa I disappeared. This caused political chaos in Buganda Kingdom which lasted for twenty five years. During this period, Mugema became the caretaker of Kimera the godfather of the Kings of Buganda Kingdom.
