Oleh Vladimirovich Zhdanov (Ukrainian: Жданов Олег Володимирович; born March 30, 1966[1]) is a Ukrainian reserve colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, military analyst, blogger and journalist.[2]

Biography[edit]

Born on 30 March, 1966 in Dresden, East Germany.

In 1987, finished Khmelnitsky Higher Artillery Command School. From 1987 to 1992, served in the German Group of Soviet Forces in city Borna. From 1992 to 1999 served in 331st self-propelled artillery regiment in Ukrainian city Perechyn of 128st Mountain Assault Brigade of 38st army corps of Carphatian Military District and from 1997 to 1999 was a teacher at the National Defense University of Ukraine.

From 1999 to 2004, worked in the Main Directorate of Missile Forces and Artillery of Ukrainian Army.

In 2004 served in the Main Operational Directorate of Ukrainian Army's General Staff.[3]

In 2007, retired to military reserve from the army.[4]

In 2015, ran for the Kiyv Oblast Council in the 2015 Ukrainian local elections from the Self Reliance, but was not elected.[5]

Journalism[edit]

Since 2016, he regularly appears in Ukrainian,[6][7] Russian, Belarusian,[8][9] Latvian,[10] Israeli,[11] and Iraqi[12] press.

Television[edit]

After the start of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, he often appears on various Ukrainian television channels, in particular on 1+1, in the TSN program,[13] ICTV,[14] and Channel 24.[15] He appears on the United News as a speaking guest.

Youtube[edit]

In 2012, he created his own YouTube channel, where he makes videos with analytics of military conflicts and battles, some from these videos are used by other YouTube channels and Ukrainian TV channels.[16][17][18]

Personal life[edit]

Since 1987, he has been married to Lyudmila Zhdanova. She holds the position of director at the publishing company “Health of Ukraine”. Son Vladimir is a confectionery entrepreneur.[4]
