Project Hail Mary is an upcoming American science fiction film directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Written by Drew Goddard, based on the book of the same name by Andy Weir, the film stars Ryan Gosling.
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 20, 2026, by Amazon MGM Studios through the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures label.

It was announced in March 2020 that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures was nearing a deal to acquire the project, an adaptation of Project Hail Mary, a then-upcoming Andy Weir novel, with Ryan Gosling set to star in and produce the film.[1] The rights for the novel was acquired by MGM's Michael De Luca for $3 million.[2] In May, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were hired to direct and produce the film.[3] Drew Goddard was hired to write the screenplay the next month and the title is tentatively called Hail Mary.[4] In April 2024, Amazon MGM Studios, who acquired MGM in 2022,[5] announced a possible 2026 release window for the film.[6]
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in June 2024 in the United Kingdom.[7]
