Randeep Jha (born 27 Oct 1982) is an Indian filmmaker known for his debut short film Kartaa.[1](2018), after which he made three back to back projects - his debut (digital) feature film Halahal[2] [(2021), Netflix original series Kohrra[3](2023) and, Trial by Fire[4](2023), which he co-directed with Prashant Nair.
Early Life and Work[edit]
In 2004, Randeep joined theatre at Barry John's Theatre in Education (TIE) company, New Delhi where he worked for three years and taught drama at a school in New Delhi. Randeep moved to Mumbai in 2008 and worked in television for three years before working in films.
Career[edit]
Randeep started his film career as an assistant director in Dibaker Banerjee's Shanghai (2012) and started assisting Anurag Kashyap in Ugly (2013) and Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) and went on to be the chief assistant director in Mukkabaaz (2017)[5]. Randeep's first directorial venture was a 20 minute short Kartaa (2018) which he also produced and co-wrote with Adamya Bhalla. It was presented by Anurag Kashyap. Randeep made his feature debut with Eros Now’s film Halahal (2020), an investigative crime drama loosely based on the Vyapam medical scam. The film's lead actors were Sachin Khedekar and Barun Sobti.[6]
Randeep's next was a Netflix original, Trial by Fire[7] (2023) which he co-directed with Prashant Nair. Trial by Fire[8] is a crime drama series starring Rajshri Deshpande and Abhay Deol. The series was based on the book written by Mrs. Neelam Krishnamoorthy about her personal story revolving around the 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy[9]
Randeep's latest work Netflix's Kohrra[10] released on July 15th 2023. The series was produced by Clean Slate Filmz and showrun by Sudip Sharma. Suvinder Vicky played the lead role along with Barun Sobti in the series.[11]
Other work[edit]
