Serge Christian Pierre Belamant (born 1953) is a South African entrepreneur known for his work in developing electronic payment systems.[1] He founded Net1 Technologies, where he created the Universal Electronic Payment System (UEPS) to facilitate secure, offline transactions.[2][3]
Belamant was born in Tulle, France, in 1953.
Belamant holds patents related to personal identification, and the design of smart card-based systems.[4]
In 1989, Belamant founded Net1 UEPS Technologies During Serge Belamant's tenure at Net1 UEPS Technologies, the company faced scrutiny over its contract with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for distributing social grants.[5][6]
