Silahtarağa is a district in Istanbul, Turkey.

Etymology

The name "Silahtarağa" is derived from the combination of tree Turkish words: "silah" (weapon) and "tar" originly [dar]] (a place) and ağa (commander)

Historically, Silahtarağa was known for its armory and weapon manufacturing during the Ottoman period, hence the name.

The area is notable for its historical significance and its transition from an industrial area to a more residential and cultural neighborhood.

The original name is actualy "Silahdarağa" derived from:

- **Silah**: "Weapon" - **Dar**: "Narrow" or "restricted" (historically, it can also imply a place or location related to a specific function) - **Ağa**: "Master" or "chief"

So, "Silahdarağa" can be translated to "the master of the narrow (or restricted) weapons" or "the weaponry master." This name reflects the area's historical connection to armory and weapon manufacturing.
