Valmiki[1], The writer of the great Ramayana[2] is highly worshipped in Amritsar. There is a temple in the city of Amritsar which has a 2 feet tall silver statue of the great Sage Valmiki. It is the second temple in Amritsar, which has a metallic statue of Valmiki, after The Valmiki Tirath Asthan. The name of the temple is MANDIR VALMIKI MILAP SABHA (REG.).It is situated in Godam Mohalla.

The Statue[edit]

The statue was brought here on 20 September, 1954. It is made up of pure silver. The statue of Maharishi Valmiki is posing like writing something. The statue is washed two times every year. One on Murti Sthapana Divas (Statue Installation Day) and Pragat Diwas. On every Pragat Diwas the statue is taken out, washed and put in Palanquin, and the palanquin is put on a chariot and pulled by a person throughout the whole city. Every Murti Sthapana Diwas and Pragat Diwas the cloth of Valmiki is changed. Daily Pooja is performed by the temple servants. Every Sunday the statue is cleaned by a wet cloth. Every year on Murti Sthapana Diwas a Kirtan[3] in the name of Valmiki is performed. Near the statue you can see the Ramayana.
