TikTok brain rot is a type of slang that people start to use when spending too much time on screens, especially TikTok or YouTube Shorts. The term derives from the idea that excessive screen time on the internet is causing people's brains to "rot," or causing them to become more stupid, leading to them saying words that are used there.^[1] Brain rot is most prevalent in generation Z, since they've been exposed to the internet for most of their lives. Examples of words referred to as brain rot include, but are not limited to:
