An untitled The Broken Earth film adaptation is being developed by TriStar Pictures, with author N. K. Jemisin adapting the trilogy herself. The trilogy was made up of The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky, each novel winning the Hugo Award for Best Novel in consecutive years from 2016–2018.

Premise[edit]

In a post-apocalyptic Earth, people live on a single continent known as the Stillness, which goes through seasonal cataclysmic events. These seasons can last for years, during which time people try to survive in comms and rebuild when the season subsides. Certain people called orogenes have the ability to draw power from the earth and manipulate energy around them. They are guided by Guardians to the fulcrum, where orogenes learn to control their powers together, but these Guardians also protect the rest of the world in the event that an orgene loses control. The delicate balance orogenes must maintain to control their power has caused them to be feared and hated by most of society, earning the nickname "raga".

Production[edit]

In June 2021, TriStar Pictures won the rights to adapt The Broken Earth series and announced that the author N. K. Jemisin would write the adaptation herself. Shary Shirazi and Rikki Jarrett are overseeing the project from TriStar.[2]
