  • Comment: All these sources cited as offline – are none of them really available online? If online versions are available, please cite them instead. If only offline versions exist, please cite them with sufficient details to enable them to be reliably identified for verification, see WP:OFFLINE for advice. One way or another, we need to see not just that sources exist, but that those sources provide significant coverage of the subject (not merely passing mentions, routine business reporting, capsule profiles, etc.) and are fully independent (not based on interviews, press releases, etc., and not sponsored content). • Comment: I find it rather presumptuous of the author to dispute the reviewer's assessment to such an extent as to resubmit the draft "nearly unchanged". The way the AfC review system is intended to work is that reviewers review, and authors develop and improve based on the reviews and comments. If the author wishes to dispute a review, they need to discuss it, either on the reviewer's talk page or at the help desk, not just tendentiously resubmit. In my view the problems mentioned do not exist. The various media sources listed in the footnotes are independent and have reported extensively on Westwing. The suggestion that the sources are not reliable is incomprehensible, as is the suggestion that significant media do not regularly report on Westwing. I am submitting the draft nearly unchanged for review. Only some figures are updated. --WWGSE-Mark (talk) 10:27, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Westwing is a German company headquartered in Munich that operates an online home & living business. It is active in eleven European countries. The company's shares are listed on the CDAX.

Business model[edit]

Westwing is an eCommerce platform for home & living products. Customers are regularly offered a selection of products. These products are presented alongside visual content such as furnishing themes and home styling tips.[3] In addition to this shopping community (club), Westwing has offered a permanent assortment of Home & Living products since 2015. The overall range (club and shop) includes manufacturer brand products and own brand products (Westwing Collection).[4] The own brand results in higher-marging for the business,[5] is positioned in the premium segment[4] and has been a strategic growth area for the business[6][4] since the beginning of 2021.[7] In November 2022, the company opened its first flagship store at Jungfernstieg in the center of Hamburg.[8][9] Westwing had previously gained experience in stationary sales with pop-up stores in various cities.[10] The company is primarily active in the B2C sector, but also targets business customers (B2B).[4]

Structure, markets and shares[edit]

The company is legally organized as a Societas Europaea (SE). The parent company is Westwing Group SE. The annual report 2023 lists 13 German and seven foreign subsidiaries.[2] Management responsibility lies with the Vorstand (Management Board), which consists of two people. The Supervisory Board consists of five members.

Westwing is active in eleven European countries. These are Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy.[11]

Company shares are traded in the German Prime Standard and are included in the CDAX.[12] Around 17% of the shares are in free float, with the remainder held by institutional investors.[13]

History[edit]

Delia Lachance (born Fischer),[14] Georg Biersack, Matthias Siepe, Stefan Smalla and Tim Schäfer[15] founded Westwing Home & Living GmbH in the first half of 2011, and the company went online in August 2011.[16]The founders raised venture capital in several financing rounds, amounting to around 150 million euros by mid-2014.[3] Investors included Tengelmann, Rocket Internet, Holtzbrinck Ventures, Kinnevik and Access Industries[17][18], among others.

In August 2018,[19] the company was converted into an Aktiengesellschaft[18] and Westwing was listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange for the first time on 9th October 2018.[20] Before the IPO, the businesses in Brazil, Russia and Kazakhstan were sold and the company focused on European markets.[21] Due to a boom driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, the company's shares were promoted to the SDAX in December 2020.[22] After the end of this boom, the shares left this index at the end of 2021.[23]At the beginning of 2022, the change of legal form to a Societas Europaea was completed with entry in the German Commercial Register; the conversion resolution was passed in June 2021.[24] Andreas Hoerning has been CEO of the company since summer 2022.[6]
