Eswaran was born Shahul Hameed at Kokarayanpettai, near to [[Thiruchengode]] in the [[Namakkal]] district of Tamil Nadu. He is a member of the [[Kongu Vellalar|Kongu Velaala Gounder]] community and his family are involved in [[circumcision]]. |

He received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Government Engineering College, Salem.
