History

[edit]

The Faculty of Law Gadjah Mada University was established as Faculteit Hoekoem Balai Perguruan Tinggi Gadjah Mada (FH BPTGM) on 17 February 1946 at SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta and was inaugurated on 3 March at the Central Indonesian National Committee Building.[1] The name Gadjah Mada was given by Boediarto and the first lecture started on 18 March at the Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat.[1]

On 7 December 1949, FH BPTGM was merged with law school in Surakarta and was renamed as Sekolah Tinggi Hukum Jogjakarta (STHJ).[1] After the government issued Government Regulation No. 23 of 1949, STHJ was merged as Faculteit Hukum Universiteit Negeri Gadjah Mada (FHUNGM) on 19 December 1949.[1] On 14 August 1950, when the government issued Government Regulation No. 30 of 1950, FHUNGM was renamed as Fakultit Hukum, Sosial, dan Politik, Universitit Negeri Gadjah Mada (FHSP UNGM).[1] It also has a branch school in Surabaya which became Faculty of Law, Airlangga University.[1]

On 19 September 1952, FHSP UNGM was renamed as Fakultit Hukum, Ekonomi, Sosial dan Politik Universitit Negeri Gadjah Mada (FHESP UNGM).[1] FHESP UNGM was then renamed as Faculty of Law, Economy, and Political Science Gadjah Mada University, on 11 July 1955.[1]

On 15 September 1955, the government instructed to develop the FHESP UNGM into 3 faculties, namely the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics, and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.[1] Since then, the independent Faculty of Law Gadjah Mada University (FH UGM) has been established.[1]
