Fairview International School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school that was founded in Kuala Lumpur. It was established in 1978. It moved to its headquarters in Wangsa Maju (KL) from its Ampang campus and it also has campuses in Subang Jaya (Selangor), Penang, and Johor Bahru. The school opened a new campus in Ipoh in 2014.
Background and Progress
Fairview International School's campuses are authorised to offer the 3 IB programmes. Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 5 to 10 years, the Middle Years Programme (MYP)for students aged 11 to 15 years as well as the Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16 to 17 years in one comprehensive school. Fairview International School campuses total to about 4000 students representing over 55 nationalities.[1] All 10 programmes are authorised by the IB Organisation (IBO) and Fairview is the only school in Malaysia authorised to deliver the MYP. The Kuala Lumpur and Penang campuses are the only IB schools in Malaysia authorised to offer all three programmes: PYP, MYP and the prestigious DP
The school offers scholarships to its Master of Arts in Education programme which is delivered in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University, UK.[2]

Subjects
In MYP (Middle Years Programme), students are being taught in various aspects. For the Lower MYP (Grade 7, 8 and 9), students are taught all the subject such as Language & Literature (English), Mathematics, Science, Language B (Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu), Physical & Health Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Design and Individuals & Societies. As for the Upper MYP (Grade 10 & 11), student will have to attend classes according to their selected subject.
All Malaysians are required to take Bahasa Melayu, as it is an official language in Malaysia. Mandarin was previously optional but starting in the 2015/16 academic year, Mandarin is a compulsory language subject.
Use of Electronics
A limited amount of students are allowed to bring laptops to school, and, starting Semester 2 of the 2014/2015 academic year, iPads as well.. Any student in the MYP or DP can bring laptops. Originally, the only computers students were allowed to bring were PCs, but Macbooks were later also allowed. Any student can use the desktop computers in the school library or ICT labs with their teacher's permission. Any student in Grades 5, 6, 7, and, starting with the 2015/2016 academic year, Grade 8 in KL and Subang Campuses, and 5, 6, and 7 in all the other campuses can bring their iPads. The school can sell units of the iPad Air 2 to students at the same cost as outside-bought iPad Air 2 models.
Expeditions
In Fairview, the Middle Years Programme (Grade 7 to Grade 11) has 2 academic expedition trips overseas to study about certain topics. There are many places they visit such as Siem Reap, Cambodia, Phuket, Thailand, China, Singapore and other places.
