The Walking Dead

Fear the Walking Dead is an upcoming American television series created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson[1] scheduled to premiere on AMC on August 23, 2015.[2] It is a companion series to the horror drama television series The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. AMC greenlit the pilot to series on March 9, 2015, with a two-season commitment.[3]

Plot

Set in Los Angeles, the series follows a divorced male teacher, a female guidance counselor, and her two children–a son and a daughter–in the opening stages of the zombie apocalypse as they come to terms with the impending collapse of civilization.[4]

Cast and characters

Main cast

  • Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, a high school guidance counselor and fiancee to Travis. She is a single mother to Alicia and Nick.[5]
  • Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa, a high school English teacher, Madison's fiance and a divorced teacher who shares custody of his son Chris with ex-wife Liza.[5]
  • Frank Dillane as Nick Clark, Madison's college-flunk out son who is battling a drug problem.[5]
  • Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia Clark, Madison's high-achieving and ambitious daughter who is in a relationship with her jock boyfriend Matt. She is able to read situations well and often finds herself at odds with Nick due to his unmotivated nature.[5]

  • Mercedes Mason as Ofelia Salazar, born and raised in the U.S. and protective of her immigrant parents.[5]
  • Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris Manawa, Travis and Liza's son, who resents his father for their divorce[6]

Production

Development

In September 2013, AMC announced they were developing a companion series to The Walking Dead, which follows a different set of characters created by Robert Kirkman.[9] In September 2014, AMC ordered a pilot, which was written by Kirkman and Dave Erickson, and directed by Adam Davidson.[10] It is executive produced by Kirkman, Erickson, Gale Anne Hurd, and David Alpert, with Erickson to serve as showrunner.[11] In December 2014, it was confirmed that the spinoff would take place during the same zombie apocalypse depicted on The Walking Dead, but in a different location, later confirmed to be set in Los Angeles.[12] The project was originally known as Cobalt,[4] and Kirkman confirmed in March 2015 that the series would be titled Fear the Walking Dead.[1] On March 9, 2015, AMC announced it had ordered it to series, with a two-season commitment. The first season, consisting of six episodes, will premiere in late summer 2015, and the second season will air in 2016.[3]

Filming

Production of the pilot episode began in early 2015 and ended on February 6, 2015.[18][19] The pilot episode was filmed in Los Angeles and the remaining first season episodes will be filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia.[20] Production began on the remaining five first-season episodes on May 11, 2015, in Vancouver.[5] Adam Davidson, who directed the pilot, will also direct the series' second and third episodes.[5]
