Francis Borgia College, Gandia, Spain, is a multilingual nursery through secondary school (ESO), run by the Society of Jesus. It dates its origin to 1543 and is currently sharing space with the Jesuit community and the Ducal Palace of Gandia.[1]

Academics

Students are enrolled from two years old through secondary school (ESO). Courses include religion, ethics, Spanish, English language, Latin, Valencian, Castelian, social studies, biology, computers, music, shop, and physical education.[2]

The "Borja" School offers teaching to students at the primary and secondary stages, including a Language Program that provides mastery of the two languages of the community, Spanish and Valencian,

The educational model followed uses the Ignatian Paradigm – experience, reflection, and action – and aims to form men and women for others.[3] It includes in its programs training in assertiveness, being firm in one's decisions in a way that is not offensive.[4]

Activities

Pastoral Activities

One special exercise used by Borja helps students live together with mutual respect and understanding. Students in 1st and 2nd ESO have a vacation-time experience of discussing relevant topics before spending two days living together. Additional experiences are offered in primary 2nd, 4th, and 6th and in 3rd and 4th ESO, including the employment of flashmobs.[5]

The College has three solidarity programs with those who are less privileged. This outreach extends to Missions (DOMUND), Caritas Interparroquial in the Camilo del Kilo, and with Nazareth in Alicante, a Jesuit school serving impoverished families and children with special needs.[6]
