Irish singer-songwriter Gemma Hayes is expected to release her forthcoming fifth studio album by late summer/autum 2014.

Background

In June 2012, Hayes announced that she had begun writing new material[1] and planned to move back to Los Angeles, this was later shelved where she continued to reside in Dublin.[2]

On 9 August 2012, Hayes announced by e-mail to fans she was continuing to work on new material. At this time she also confirmed work on a side-project with David Odlum and planned to release a live album in early 2013 (this release was later postponed). Hayes confirmed a new tour of Ireland and the UK beginning in October 2012.[3]

On 21 November 2012, Hayes confirmed she would record her upcoming gig in Dublin's Olympia on 9 December to release it as a live album in early 2013.[4][5] On 22 April 2013 Hayes confirmed through an email to fans she hoped to release a special limited vinyl featuring live performances gathered at some of her tour dates. Each limited edition vinyl was numbered and signed by the artist herself. She also confirmed to has written some new songs and is expected to go into the studio soon to record them for the fifth studio album.[6]

Chasing Sparks was the given name for a future EP release which was later postponed.[7] It was expected to be released as a download in mid-December 2012. On 21 November 2012, Gemma confirmed the release of the EP.[8] It was confirmed on 28 November 2012 that her version of Cloudbusting was expected to appear on the EP.[9][10] It was confirmed on 23 December 2012 that a cover of Sparklehorse' 'Beautiful Widow' was to feature on the EP with vocals from Jack Savoretti.

On 30 April 2013, Hayes confirmed she began recording her fifth studio album in France.[11] In August 2013, Hayes announced plans which offers fans to take part in the production and support the new LP through an initiative with PledgeMusic.[12]

By 16 August 2013, on her new official website Hayes gave more details about her PledgeMusic campaign.[13] She confirmed the release of a limited live vinyl release titled 'Night & Day' pre-orders taken from her Pledge page.[13] Gemma confirmed her new album will be released early spring 2014 and she is expected to tour across Europe.[14] Her new LP will again be independently released through her record label 'Chasing Dragons' (previously GH Music). At the end of each PledgeMusic tweet they refer to the album with #electronica which suggests the album may have a more electronica sound to previous offerings. In an interview with Hot Press published 13 September 2013[15] Hayes dispelled the notion her new album would have an electronica sound, she commented that her new material would feature more reverb and suggested in a playful way the album's sound may have a more The Mamas & the Papas theme to it. The album is currently being produced between Dublin and France and is expected for a spring 2014 release.[16] On 21 September 2013 it was confirmed that Hayes' PledgeMusic campaign was completed.[17] On 3 December 2013[18] Hayes was interviewed by Hot Press magazine where she discussed the album's recording moving to Wales and her PledgeMusic campaign.

On 10 April 2014, Hayes revealed through her Facebook page three titles of new songs to feature on the album due in the summer. These tracks include 'To Be Your Honey', 'Palomino' and 'Making My Way Back'. A 15 second live recording of 'Be Your Honey' was also revealed. Hayes also confirmed mixing and mastering will take place in France in the coming month as Hayes finishes recording in London.[19] In April 2014, Hayes performed a number of UK gigs[20][21] prior to the forthcoming fifth studio album due later this year. These gigs were part of her Pledge Music campaign. Hayes is expected to tour the rest of Europe in the fall following the release of her new album due late summer 2014.

The album will be released independently through Gemma's own label Chasing Dragons similarly to her last two studio albums. Her management are also hoping to release the album through other labels.
