Career

Acting

"I have to say one morning, I was walking in my fitting and Claire Holt was walking into hers. And she was like, "Hey. You're the new girl. Take my number. If you're bored in your hotel, call me." It's like going into a new school a bit because they've been there for so long. And for her to do that… And Candice [Accola] is so sweet and so lovely, was immediately welcoming to me. And everyone's actually been really nice and welcoming. I just like that moment with Claire. I tell that story all the time because that's just such a nice thing. She's like, "I know what it's like to live in a hotel." She did it all last year. So she said, "Call me."

— Phipps, on about who has been the most welcoming person on The Vampire Diaries set.[4]

Following her 2010 high school graduation, Phipps moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and immediately landed the role as Bee in the remake Fright Night, as well as originating the role of Amy in the ABC Family series The Nine Lives of Chloe King.[5] The series was cancelled after one season.[6]

In 2012, Phipps was cast as April Young, a recurring character in the CW's The Vampire Diaries[7] and appeared in ten episodes of the fourth season. It was later confirmed that she would return for another season.[8]

In 2013, Phipps appeared as Lela in the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie along with Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell. Phipps had a number of featured solos, including the song "Falling for Ya".[9] Phipps was announced to appear in Austin & Ally episode "Directors & Divas" as Brandy Braxton. She will appear in the film adaption of Dark Summer based on the novel of the same name by Jon Cleary as Mona. Phipps was announced to reprise her role as Lela in a sequel, Teen Beach Movie 2, along with Ross Lynch, Maia Mitchell, Garrett Clayton and John DeLuca will reprise their roles in the sequel.[10]
