Hammonton (formerly, Dredgertown and Dredgerville)[2] is an unincorporated community in Yuba County, California. It is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south of Browns Valley,[2] at an elevation of 131 feet (40 m).
A post office operated at Hammonton from 1906 to 1957.[2] The original name was due to gold dredging which took place in the nearby Yuba Goldfields. The current name is in honor of W.P. Hammon, gold-dredging company official.[2]
