"Homesick" is a song by English singer Dua Lipa with uncredited guest vocals from Chris Martin, lead vocalist of the English alternative rock band Coldplay. The song was co-written by Martin and the singer herself. It was included as the final track from the standard edition of her debut album Dua Lipa. Musically, "Homesick" is a piano ballad with lyrics about loneliness. On 1 December 2017, the track was released as a digital single and later the same month for airplay in Belgium and the Netherlands,[1][2][3] charting in both countries.[1][4]

Background

The track features uncredited vocals by co-writer Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

In early 2017, Lipa took a trip to Malibu to record with Chris Martin. Lipa has described the last-minute addition track as "the most beautiful song" on Dua Lipa.[5] Lipa revealed the collaboration on 8 May 2017, during a performance in Singapore.[6]

Critical reception

"Homesick" received acclaim from music critics, who praised its lyrics and instrumentation. Neil Z. Yeung of AllMusic stated that "Homesick" "reveals Lipa's vulnerability and softness" and pointed out the similarities between the track and Coldplay's "Everglow", which is also written by Martin. He also stated the track is very different apart from the other tracks in the album and praise the track as "an excellent first effort:.[7] Ben Hogwood of musicOMH, while writing about the album Dua Lipa, praise the duet "brings some welcome tenderness and a genuine sense of yearning".[8]
