Howden School and Technology College was placed in "Special Measures" following an Ofsted inspection in July 2010. The inspectors said the school was failing to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education, and that those responsible for leading and managing the school were not demonstrating the capacity to secure necessary improvement. The head teacher, Andrew Williams, left and was replaced by Gary Garghan (Acting Head) and Dave McCready (Executive Head).[1] On 24 September 2011 Howden School was judged to be 'satisfactory' grade 3, by Ofsted, and officially declared to be out of Special Measures.[2]

Danny Worsnop, lead singer of heavy metal band Asking Alexandria, attended the school.[citation needed]
