Inbal Rabin-Lieberman
Born (1998-10-09) 9 October 1998 (age 25)
Nationality Israel

Inbal Rabin-Lieberman (Hebrew: ענבל ליברמן; born October 9, 1998, Nir-Am) is an Israeli woman who served as the security coordinator of the Nir-Am kibbutz.[1] Thanks to the actions of Rabin-Lieberman, Nir-Am was the only settlement bordering the Gaza Strip that did not suffer casualties during Hamas' invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Inbal Rabin-Liberman was born in Kibbutz Nir-Am and continues to reside there.[2] As is typical of Jewish Israeli women, Rabin-Liberman served in the IDF, where she was in combat units.[2] After that she studied at the Women's Leadership School.[2][4]

IDF service

In December 2022, the kibbutz appointed Inbal Rabin-Lieberman as its coordinator of military security.[2][4] Her duties included helping the security of the kibbutz residents in critical situations until reinforcements from the police or the army could arrive.[2] Before her appointment, the position was held by her uncle Ami Rabin.[2][4] Rabin-Lieberman became the first woman in the kibbutz to hold such a position.[2] After the appointment, she received congratulations from Ofir Libstein, the head of the regional council of Shaar Ha-Negev.[2][4]

October 2023 Israel-Hamas war

On October 7, 2023, Rabin-Lieberman heard unusual noises near the kibbutz.[5][6] She correctly assessed the significance of the threat and quickly distributed weapons among the 12 members of the "quick response group" created from the inhabitants of the village, including her uncle Ami Rabin.[1][2] To do this, she ran between houses, organizing men in different ambushes around the perimeter of the kibbutz and developed a plan to protect the settlement.[2][3]

Rabin-Lieberman and her fellow citizens held their positions for three hours.[5][6] They killed 25 militants before the IDF arrived.[2][7]

She evacuated with other residents and stayed in a hotel in Tel Aviv. On October 9, she celebrated her birthday, on which Mayor Ron Huldai passed by to congratulate her.[2]
