It owns Inter IKEA Holding S.A. registered in Luxembourg, which owns Inter IKEA Systems B.V., registered in the Netherlands, and thereby controls the intellectual property of the IKEA brand. Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, and his family control the Interogo Foundation.[1] Royalties of 3% on all IKEA products has resulted in the foundation controlling assets valued at US $15 billion.[2]

History

The foundation was founded on the 29 March 1989 in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The aim of the foundation is to secure the continued existence of Inter IKEA Holding S.A. and to influence the leadership of the company.[3]

Governance

The foundation board has at least two members, who were originally lawyers Herbert Oberhuber and Johannes Burger. The members can be appointed or replaced by the Appo Trust based in Ontario, Canada or by an equal trust created by the foundation. Meetings of the board are announced by the president of the foundation. The foundation may be changed into a company or a trust if circumstances have changed so that this is in the foundation's interests.[3]
