The Investigative Committee of Russian Federation (Russian: Следственный комитет Российской Федерации) is the main federal investigating authority in Russia, formed in place of the Investigative Committee of The Prosecutor of the Russian Federation. it began to operate on January 15, 2011. The Committee is subordinate to the President of Russia. Sometimes this service is described as the "Russian FBI".
In January 21, 2011, Acting Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, was appointed by decree of the President of the Russian Federation to the Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee.
In 2012 the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev begun to discuss the posibility of the creation of the Federal Anti-Corruption Bureau (Russian: федеральное бюро по борьбе с коррупцией) under the Investigative Committee, as part of the campaign against the Corruption and to combat against the corruption in the Russian Police.

the number of agents in the Investigative Committee (except the military investigative agents) is 19,156 employees, and from January 1, 2012 need to be 21,156 employees. the number of the Military Investigators now is 2,034 employees.

In January 15, 2011 Alexander Bastrykin was appointed as Acting Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation by Presidential Decree of January 14, 2011 № 39.
