Ion Cojar (English language: John Cojar) (January 9, 1931 - October 18, 2009) was a famous Romanian method acting teacher and theater director. He is the pioneer of the Romanian method acting school.
As a teacher at The National University of Theater and Film from Bucharest, Ion Cojar founded the Romanian method acting school, ensuring that students develop a psycho-emotional „mechanism” specific to the transformation of the conventions in life truth, unlike the old acting school in which students were taught how to play theater. He fought for an education system in which students are not taught or modeled by the teacher, but in which the environment is that of laboratory experimentation and self-knowledge, of deliverance from preconceptions acquired in family, school and society, an environment in which the student is able to become aware of and to use his full native creative potential that makes him unique.
