Orenthal James Simpson, known by the initials O.J. and nicknamed The Juice, is a former professional football player and film actor.

Simpson was accused of the 1994 killing of his wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman and was acquitted in criminal court in 1995, after a lengthy and highly publicized trial.

His lawyers, including Johnny Cochran, argued that he was the victim of police fraud. Simpson's defense had argued that LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman had planted evidence at the crime scene. On February 4, 1997, a civil jury found Simpson willfully and wrongfully caused the death of Ronald Goldman, committed battery against Ronald Goldman, and committed battery against Nicole Brown, and Simpson was ordered to pay $33,500,000 in damages.

Simpson became the first Heisman Trophy winner elected to the Football Hall of Fame on January 23, 1985.
