Ivan Hennadiyovych Bakanov (Ukrainian: Іван Геннадійович Баканов; born 2 May 1974) is a Ukrainian politician and businessman. He was the leader of the Servant of the People party from 2017 to 2019[4]. He is the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine[5].
Biography
Bakanov studied at the Kyiv National Economic University (1997) and Academy of Labor, Social Relations and Tourism [uk] (2006).
He headed LLC Kvartal 95 Studio from January 2013[6].
Bakanov is the First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine – Chief of the Main Directorate on Fight against Corruption and Organized Crime of the Central Department of the Security Service since 2019[7][6].
He was part of the Volodymyr Zelensky's team during 2019 presidential campaign[8]. Bakanov is a childhood friend of Zelensky.[9]
On 22 May 2019 President Zelensky appointed Bakanov the first deputy chairman of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).[10] Following this the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Hrytsak, went on vacation, and Bakanov began to perform his duties.[11]

On 11 June 2019, it was revealed that Hrytsak had awarded Bakanov the military rank of "lieutenant", at the same time as his admission to military service in the SBU.[13] The president's team stated that Lieutenant Bakanov's rank was given to give him access to classified information.[14]
Member of the National Council on Anti-Corruption Policy (since 16 July 2019)[15].
He is married. His son is a student of the Kyiv National Economic University[6]. Bakanov's wife has Russian citizenship, in June 2019 her husband stated that she is in line to get Ukrainian citizenship.[16] She since 1998 lives and works in Ukraine with a permanent residence permit.[17]
Bakanov was officially appointed as Head of the Security Service of Ukraine by parliament on 29 August 2019.[18]
Bakanov has lieutenant rank[19].
