Jetpur Navagadh (Kathi's) is a city and a municipality [1] in Rajkot district in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Jetpur is also called "Capital of Kathiawad".

Jetpur is a textile town in Rajkot District of Gujarat and is situated 30 km north of Junagadh and 70 km from Rajkot city Southerly towards Somnath on National Highway 8D. The city is build-up at riverfront of the Bhadar.

Population

As of 2011 India census,[2] Jetpur Navagadh had a population of 118,302. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Jetpur Navagadh has an average literacy rate of 98%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 98%, and female literacy is 97%. In Jetpur Navagadh, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Social and cultural life

The eminent Politician and notable resident of the city is Savjibhai Korat.

Shree Swaminarayan mandir here is a popular spiritual centre also committed to social cause.[3]

Economy

Jetpur is one of the largest centers for screen-printing, block printing and yarn dyeing workshops in the country. It is famous for cotton saree udyog and is major exporter of khanga and kitenge (fabrics used by native Africans for various use).[4][5] Local industrialists Shri Gordhandas Karsanji Bosamia and Shri Chunilal Karsanji Bosamia of Jagdish Mills set up the first Textile Mill in Jetpur and later in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Jetpur is a pleasure for textile enthusiasts who can visit and experience the process of printing and dyeing. The city is nicknamed Mini Dubai because of its vibrant commercial activity.
