Jo Hamilton (born Eton, Berkshire) is a leading[1][2] British interior designer, based in London, known for her expertise in colour.[3] She is the founder and creative director of Jo Hamilton Interiors,[4] taking on residential and commercial work in the UK and abroad.
Hamilton is a show ambassador and key speaker for House,[5][6] in Dublin's RDS. Hamilton was also the long-term resident interior designer at Grand Designs Live[7] in both London and Birmingham[8] as well as a key speaker and one of three "show ambassadors" along with Kevin McCloud and Charlie Luxton, and formerly George Clarke (architect).[9][10]
Further keynote public speaking appointments have included Index Dubai,[11] Top Drawer[12][13] and the International Property Awards,[14] for which she is also a judge.[15] Hamilton became a What House? Awards judge in 2016,[16][17] with What House? editorial director Rupert Bates stating: “We are delighted to have Jo on board. She is hugely talented and regarded and joins an outstanding panel of judges.”[18]
Hamilton has appeared on Sky Living series Who'd Be a Billionaire?,[19][20][21][22][23] BBC's What To Do With The House (When The Kids Leave) and ITV's 60-Minute Makeover, among others.[24][25]
Hamilton regularly features in interviews about interior design trends and issues by media outlets that have included The Independent,[26] the Daily Telegraph,[27][28] Irish Independent,[29] Metro,[30] BBC,[31] International Property & Travel,[32] Rightmove,[33] and UAE fashion magazine Elite Monde,[34][35] among others.
Hamilton has worked on interior design-related PR activities with a number of respected companies, including Virgin Money UK[36][37] and First Time Buyer Online.[38] In 2014, she was commissioned by homewares chain HomeSense to open a series of new stores across England,[39] including Cheltenham,[40] Solihull[41][42] and Salisbury.[43] Hamilton has also been a brand ambassador for Bosch Power Tools[44][45][46] - also known as Robert Bosch GmbH - and Dulux.[47][48][49]
She runs regular interior design courses at five-star London venues that have included Charlotte Street Hotel and The Sanderson Hotel.
From a young age Hamilton believed she would become an artist,[50] with her "first love" being fashion design.[51] She became an interior designer in 1995 with a brief professional background in graphic design before she had three children. In a 2017 interview with What House? Hamilton listed late Irish interior designer David Collins as a source of inspiration, stating: "The elegance and serenity he was able to achieve is very much something that I also aim for in my designs".[52]
Her father, Brian Clarke, writes a monthly column for The Times, on fly-fishing and the environment.[53]
Hamilton's agent is Peter MacFarlane, of London-based MacFarlane Chard Associates.
