How was born in 1881 and educated at Pocklington School and St John's College, Cambridge.[3] He was ordained in 1906[4] and began his career at the Wellington College Mission, Walworth. From 1906 he was Lecturer in Hebrew at his old college[5] then Warden of the OGS Oratory House, Cambridge.
