The Johor Zoo (Malay: Zoo Johor) is a zoo in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia.[1]

History

The zoo was opened in 1928 by Sultan Ibrahim as Animal Garden. In the 1960s, the zoo was handed over to Johor State Government and opened to the public in 1962. In 2016, the state government approved the relocation of the zoo from Johor Bahru to 20.23 hectares (50.0 acres) of land in Iskandar Puteri with a budget of MYR53 million.[2]

Architecture

The zoo spreads around an area of 12.5 ha (31 acres) and is also equipped with facilities such as playground, food stalls, recreation square, toilets etc.

Animals

There are more than 100 animal species in the zoo, ranging from gorillas, elephants, flamingos, horses, lions etc.[3][4]

Activities

The zoo offers various activities, such as paddling, horse riding etc.

Opening time

The zoo is opened everyday from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
