Gerd Müller

Gerd Müller (born November 3, 1945) was a German football player.

With a record of 68 goals in 62 international appearances and 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games he was one of the most successful strikers of all time.

Born in Nördlingen, Germany he began his football career at the TSV 1861 Nördlingen. After joining the FC Bayern München in 1964, he started his national and international career. Müller became German top scorer in 1967/69/70/72/73/74/78, won the German Championship with the FC Bayern München in 1969/72/73/74, the German Cup 1966/67/69/71, the European Champions' Cup in 1974/75/76 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1967.

His career in the German national team started in 1966 and ended on July 7, 1974, fittingly, with the win of the World Cup in his home stadium at Munich. He scored the winning goal for the 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in the final. His 4 goals in that 1974 World Cup and his 10 Goals at the 1970 World Cup make him, with 14 hits, the most successful World Cup Striker to date.

Müller also participated in the 1972 European Championship, scoring 4 goals and winning the Championship with the German team.

After his career in the Bundesliga in he went to the USA, where he joined the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 1979 and then the Smith Brothers Lounge in 1981.

In 1982 Müller ended his career. After overcoming alcohol problems, he got a job as youth trainer at his old club, the FC Bayern, where he still works today.
