Joshua Levering

Joshua Levering (1845–1935) was a prominent Baptist leader . He was president of the trustees of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, vice-president of the Southern Baptist Convention, co-founder of the American Baptist Educational Society, and co-founder of the Layman's Missionary Movement.
A strong supporter of the temperance movement, Levering became the presidential candidate of the Prohibition Party in the election of 1896 and received 132,007 votes.
According to a New York Times obituary [October 6, 1935], the "Noted dry leader" died at the age of 90 in Baltimore.
