KJMZ (97.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an Urban Contemporary format. The station is licensed to Cache, Oklahoma, and serves the Lawton area. KJMZ is owned by Perry Broadcasting.
History
The station that would become KJMZ was purchased by Perry Broadcasting in the summer of 1996. At that time, the station was located on the 98.1 frequency. The format was changed to its current R&B and Hip Hop at that time.
In 2008, Citadel Broadcasting wanted to upgrade its sports station WWLS-FM from its 97.9 Frequency to 98.1 at an ERP of 31,000 watts. In order to complete this move, Citadel paid Perry Broadcasting to move its K98 Jamz format from 98.1 to 97.9 and upgrade its power to 6,000 watts.
On March 5, 2010, KJMZ was taken off the air temporarily after the station's studios were burglarized in the early morning hours.[1] It has since resumed broadcasting.
History of KJMZ
For many years the call letters of KJMZ were housed at Dallas-Fort Worth's 100.3 which was also an Churban station now known as "KJKK" Jack FM.
