Karabayır (Kurdish: Zengan, Syriac: Zangan) is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Dargeçit, Mardin Province in Turkey.[2] The village is populated by Kurds of the Erebiyan tribe and had a population of 1,020 in 2021.[1][3]

History

Zangan (today called Karabayır) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.[4] In 1915, there were 30 Syriac Orthodox families.[5] Amidst the Sayfo, they were killed by the Ali Rammo tribe.[6]
