Karina /kəˈriːnə/ is a female given name of modern usage. It can be a variant spelling of Carina (from Latin carus = love) or a short form of Katarina/Katrina.[1]

It is mainly used in Scandinavia, Poland, and the Americas; when spelt Carina, it is used in Italy and Spain.

In Poland, it is more likely derived from Ekaterina, another variant of Catherine –meaning "pure".
