Kinchbus was founded by former Leicester City Football Club director Gilbert Kinch in 1987 trading as GK Kinch and based in Barrow Upon Soar. Prior to moving into local bus services, Kinch had operated coaches from nearby Mountsorrel since at least 1972. During the early 1990s Kinchbus began to expand with services around Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. In 1998 Kinchbus was sold to the Wellglade Group.

Since 2008 Kinchbus have been operating the Skylink service originally between Derby and Loughborough, but following the withdrawal of the Arriva Leicester service, in April 2009 it was extended into Leicester.[2]

Following the collapse of Nottingham based Premiere Travel on 25 January 2013, Kinchbus announced that they would be re-introducing their number 9 service between Loughborough and Nottingham as a replacement for Premiere's Red9 service.[3]

Kinchbus operate a number of services that service local estates within Loughborough along with some Leicester City Council contracted services in Leicester. They also operate the Skylink service to East Midlands Airport that operates from St Margaret's Bus Station in Leicester to Derby.[4]

As of November 2012 the fleet consisted of 34 buses.[5]
