Lady Amelia Windsor (Amelia Sophia Theodora Mary Margaret Windsor; born 24 August 1995) is an English fashion model and member of the British royal family. She is currently 38th in the line of succession to the British throne.

Early life and family

Lady Amelia Windsor was born on 24 August 1995 at Rosie Hospital in Cambridge and was christened in December 1995 at Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.[2] She is the youngest child of George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Sylvana Tomaselli.[3] Her paternal grandfather, Prince Edward, Duke of Kent,[4][5] is a first cousin of Elizabeth II.[6][7] Her paternal great grandparents were Prince George, Duke of Kent, and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, a granddaughter of George I of Greece and first cousin of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Her paternal great-great grandparents were George V and Mary of Teck. She descends maternally from the Austrian Tomaselli family. Lady Amelia is the younger sister of Edward Windsor, Lord Downpatrick, and Lady Marina Charlotte Windsor.[8] She is a third cousin of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.[9][10]

Succession rights

Lady Amelia's father, the Earl of St Andrews, lost his succession rights to the British throne as a consequence of marrying a Roman Catholic. In 2013 the Succession to the Crown Act was passed, granting him succession rights once again.[11] Lady Amelia's two older siblings were confirmed in the Catholic faith and therefore gave up their succession rights.[12] As such, she is the only heir of her father to maintain a position in the line of succession.[13]

Career

Lady Amelia is signed with Storm Model Management.[14][15][3] In 2016 she was the cover girl for Tatler.[16] In February 2017 she walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana at Milan Fashion Week.[17][18] She also walked in Dolce & Gabbana's 2019 Spring collection.[8] She was featured on the August 2017 cover of Vogue Japan.[19] In 2018, Lady Amelia released a collaboration with Penelope Chilvers for a line of shoes, and modeled for the line in a video campaign in Spain.[20] Twenty percent of the proceeds from her shoe collection were donated to War Child, a charity that aids children in conflict areas.[16]

Lady Amelia has worked for Chanel, Azzedine Alaia, and interned at BVLGARI.[14][16][3]

Personal life

After graduating from St Mary's School, Ascot,[21] Lady Amelia spent time in India and Thailand.[22] She studies French and Italian at the University of Edinburgh.[15][23][24]

In 2011 she attended the wedding of her cousin Prince William of Wales to Catherine Middleton.[25]

Lady Amelia was named in the Vanity Fair International Best Dressed List in 2017.[26] She was dubbed "the most beautiful member of the royal family" by Tatler.[27][28] Later in 2017 she attended the Queen's annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.[29]

In 2018 Lady Amelia and her siblings were reportedly not invited to the wedding of their cousin Prince Harry of Wales to Meghan Markle.[30][31]

Titles and styles

As the daughter of a courtesy earl, she is entitled to the style The Lady Amelia Windsor.

Ancestry

Lady Amelia paternally descends from various royal houses of Europe. She is direct descendant of George V of the United Kingdom, George I of Greece, Alexander II of Russia, Christian IX of Denmark, Frederick II Eugene, Duke of Württemberg, and Frederick II, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel.
