The Leuciscinae, commonly known as true minnows, are a large subfamily of the freshwater fish family Cyprinidae.[1]

Smaller fish in the Leuciscinae are known as minnows. However, the term minnow is also used as an unspecific term for tiny freshwater and saltwater fish, especially those used as fishing bait.
