Lisette Alexís Gutiérrez,[3] (born April 16, 1999 in Los Angeles),[2] generally known professionally as Lisette Alexis and Lisette Olivera, is an American actress of Mexican descent.[4][5] She is best known for her role as the lead in the Disney television series National Treasure: Edge of History, the 2022 extension of the National Treasure franchise.[6][4]

Life

Gutierrez's parents were born in Mexico,[7] and she is of Mexican descent through multiple generations.[4] She was born in the US[7] and grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles,[8] partly brought up by her grandfather.[2] Her mother tried to dissuade her from a career in acting, towards more "economically sufficient" areas,[8] and she instead trained from childhood as a dancer, and later also studied vocals, piano and guitar.[2][5] When old enough to drive, she auditioned for short films in nearby Hollywood.[8] She modelled in college.[5] As of 2022, she was reported to be single.[5]

Career

Billed originally as Lisette Alexis, she has performed professionally in several films and two series. Her screen acting career began with the short film Feint, released in 2019, the year in which she also featured in the Brat TV teen drama Web series Total Eclipse. Subsequently she had a role in the psychological horror film We Need to Do Something[6] and took significant roles in two film shorts.[5]

After detailed summer 2021 auditions, she was announced in the lead role for the National Treasure series, billed as Lisette Alexis, in October 2021, ahead of the rest of the cast,[9] and later released the first word in a "behind the scenes" about commencement of filming.[1] Later references, and screen credits, are as Lisette Olivera. The series is the first new media production in the National Treasure franchise in around 15 years, with an initial budget of around 100 million dollars (79 million for production, plus marketing and distribution).[10] Olivera’s character, Jess Valenzuela (originally planned as "Jess Morales"), is a 22-year old aspirant cryptologist and Latina DREAMer.[11] Co-stars include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Harvey Keitel, and she has mentioned that she learned a lot from Zeta-Jones.[4] Her performance garnered positive reviews, including from CBR, which stated that “Her talent is far more deserving of the big screen than a streaming series. It's clear that she could handle sharing equal billing with Nicolas Cage in National Treasure 3...”,[12] and Yahoo!, which described her as "earnest and charming".[13]
