Death in Paradise is a British and French crime drama created by Robert Thorogood.[1] The show is set in the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, and is filmed in Guadeloupe.[2] The series focuses on a detective inspector (DI) and his police team solving murder mysteries on the Caribbean island. The programme's main cast has included Ben Miller, who starred as DI Richard Poole from 2011 to 2014, Kris Marshall, who portrayed DI Humphrey Goodman from 2014 to 2017, Ardal O'Hanlon, who currently plays DI Jack Mooney, Gary Carr who portrayed sergeant Fidel Best from 2011 to 2014, Sara Martins, who starred as detective sergeant (DS) Camille Bordey from 2011 to 2015, Joséphine Jobert who currently stars in the role of DS Florence Cassell, Don Warrington who has starred as commissioner Selwyn Patterson since the first episode, Danny John-Jules, who played officer Dwayne Myers from 2011 to 2018[3], Tobi Bakare who currently portrays officer JP Hooper and Élizabeth Bourgine, who has played the character Catherine Bordey since series one.[4]
Death in Paradise was first announced on 9 December 2010 by the BBC; commissioned by controller of BBC Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson. It was revealed that the show would be produced by Red Planet Pictures and Atlantique Productions, in association with BBC Worldwide and Kudos Film and Television for BBC One and France Télévisions.[5] The idea for Death in Paradise came from Robert Thorogood, whose idea was formed after reading a report of a suspected murder in the Caribbean during the Cricket World Cup.[1] Filming for the first series began in spring 2011,[6] with the first series airing between October and December 2011.[7] On 11 January 2012, Stephenson announced that a second series comprising eight episodes had been commissioned.[8] The second series ran from January to February 2013. Since then, Death in Paradise has been recommissioned each year,[9][10][11][12][13] and aired in January of each following year.[14][15][16]
An eighth series was announced on 1 February 2018, to be broadcast in 2019.[17]

Humphrey learns that the president's son argued with him just hours before his death, while the society's secretary, Teresa, was stealing the society's funds. A tourist, Sian Evans, is found dead in her locked bathroom. All evidence points to Sian committing suicide, but Humphrey is reluctant to believe she was not murdered. His suspicions are soon confirmed when he learns that all of the suspects had various motives. At the same time, it is the day of JP's wedding, but he questions whether he can go through with the event or not. |

Tom Lewis is murdered on his boat, five miles out at sea, whilst partying with girlfriend Sophie and her friends Lucy, Hema and Rachel. All the suspects alibi each other, while Rachel also tells Humphrey that she witnessed Tom make a secret phone call and place cash into a moneybag, which has now gone missing. A button is discovered on the floor of the boat, but none of the suspects recognise it. The logo on the button links Tom to a bank in the UK. Humphrey, Dwayne, Florence and the suspects all fly over to England, where DI Jack Mooney assists them with their enquiries. As the team and Jack question the bank staff: Steve Thomas, Frank Henderson, Martin West and Dominic Green, they learn that Frank had a rendezvous with Tom before Tom died. Humphrey manages to eliminate Steve from the investigation, and when he uncovers a hidden family link, he solves the case with Jack. After solving the mystery, Humphrey decides he is happier back living in London with Martha. Jack interviews Julie's widow, Ian, and learns he was close to Nadine prior to her death. When the team learn that Julie's body has gone missing, they suffer a setback in the case, although analysis of a sound recording which includes the fatal shot from the gun which killed Julie helps Jack identify the real murderer. | |||||||

Jack decides to reconstruct the crime scene in an attempt to artfully identify the killer. Jack impresses Selwyn, who offers Jack a permanent position at the police station. |

The hotel manager also proves to be uncooperative in the case when Jack asks for more information on which rooms the guests were staying in for the duration of the wedding, which proves vital in helping Jack solve the mystery.
