Kumar Sangakkara was the last captain of Deccan Chargers

Deccan Chargers (DC) was a Hyderabad-based franchise cricket team that participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2008 to 2012. The team was owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited, which paid 587.9 crore (US$70 million) million for the franchise.[1] Vangipurappu Laxman was selected as the captain of the team for the first season of the IPL and was succeeded by Adam Gilchrist in the 2009 season, when the team won the league.[2] The team qualified for the 2009 Champions League Twenty20, where they were eliminated at the group stage.[3] The team's last coach was Darren Lehmann, and Kumar Sangakkara was the captain in 2012.[4] On 15 September 2012, the Deccan Chargers' IPL contract was terminated by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), which was concerned about overdue payments to the players.[5] The Hyderabad franchise was later acquired by the Sun TV Network for 85.05 crore (US$10 million) per year in a bid which retained 20 players.[6]

Adam Gilchrist – who as of plays as captain for Kings XI Punjab – was the team's leading run scorer with 1289 runs scored in 48 matches. Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma were the only batsmen from the team to achieve an individual run total above 1000.[7] Cameron White, the former captain of the team, had the highest batting average, 38.86 throughout 19 matches. Shahid Afridi, who played in the first season, had the highest strike rate of 176.08 in 10 matches.[8][9] Andrew Symonds achieved a record highest number of runs in a single match by scoring 117 runs on 53 balls.[10] Pragyan Ojha, who had played the most matches for the team, was the team's leading wicket taker with a record of 62 wickets in 56 matches.[11] In bowling, Shikhar Dhawan had the highest strike rate of 12.0 and the best bowling average of 16.50 for the team.[12][13] While Abhishek Jhunjhunwala and Dale Steyn had the best economy rate of 6.33, Ishant Sharma was the only bowler to take a 5-wicket haul from the team.[14][15] Herschelle Gibbs and Sharma took the most catches; 22. Gilchrist with 27 dismissals performed the most stumpings.[16][17]

The first list includes all players who played in at least one match for DC and is initially listed alphabetically by their last name.[α] The second list comprises all those players who captained the team in at least one match, arranged in the order of the first match as captain.[β][γ][δ][ε]
