Llanishen High School (Welsh: Ysgol Uwchradd Llanisien) is an English speaking-medium secondary school based in Llanishen, Cardiff, Wales and has approximately 1700 students, making it the largest single-site secondary school in Cardiff. It also has a sixth form college for 16-18 year olds.

School buildings

Llanishen High School

Much of the school was built during the 1950s, but some buildings (the new Science block for example) were built in later decades. The School has a hockey pitch, basketball court, indoor tennis courts, fields for athletics/cricket/football and rugby and enters teams in a variety of competitions - usually competing against local schools. A new D.T. block has been built. The LRC (Learning Resource Centre/Library) and Sports Hall have been renovated.

Council

The School has a student council formed in mid-2006. This council consists of two students from each year from 7-11 voted in by the whole year.

The council has been proved a success in having key input in developing several areas of the school. Examples of this include; new bike racks, re-development of the West-Wing corridor area, improving canteen food through the newly found SNACK committee. Current projects include a revamp of the school website, re-development of the East-Wing corridor area and improving the schools Quad area.

Recently, the council have formed a partnership with Sainsbury's in Thornhill, Cardiff. The superstore provides sponsorship to the newly produced school newspaper and offers cash prizes for several competitions run by the school.

Media

LHTV is a small TV Station based at the school. It has produced films on Bullying, Uniform, the Climate change problems facing the Welsh valleys and one about "Transition" from Year 6 to Year 7, i.e. the move from primary school to high school. The station was involved in an award won at the European Languages Awards 2007 when the Modern Foreign Languages Department won the award for the best "Foreign Language Film".

The station also films the annual European Day of Languages held in Cardiff every year which the school itself runs.

Sport

The school has teams participating in local, regional and national competitions in a variety of sports. In recent successes, the Senior XV Boys Rugby Team made it to the Welsh Cup Final in 2011 narrowly losing out on the trophy.

Alerting users

  • {{alert/first}} ({{Contentious topics/alert/first}}) is used, on a user's talk page, to "alert", or draw a user's attention, to the contentious topics system if they have never received such an alert before. In this case, this template must be used for the notification.
  • {{alert}} ({{Contentious topics/alert}}) is used, on a user's talk page, to "alert", or draw a user's attention, to the fact that a specific topic is a contentious topic. It may only be used if the user has previously received any contentious topic alert, and it can be replaced by a custom message that conveys the contentious topic designation.
  • {{alert/DS}} ({{Contentious topics/alert/DS}}) is used to inform editors that the old "discretionary sanctions" system has been replaced by the contentious topics system, and that a specific topic is a contentious topic.
  • {{Contentious topics/aware}} is used to register oneself as already aware that a specific topic is a contentious topic.
