Lucky Blue Smith is an American model, a drummer in a rock band and an aspiring actor. He was scouted at the age of 10 and signed to an international modeling agency by the age of 12. He is known for his signature platinum blond bleached hair. His natural hair color is light brown.
Modeling career
Smith is the youngest of four siblings and the only male. His mother Sheridan is a former model and his father Dallon is a hobbyist musician who started a guitar-string company. He grew up in the small town of Spanish Fork, Utah.[2] He was scouted with his three sisters in Utah when he was 10 and began his career when he was 12.[3] Upon being signed with NEXT Model Management, he and entire Smith family (who are all Mormon) moved to Los Angeles where the younger children are homeschooled. Shortly after their arrival, Smith and his siblings were photographed by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Homme Japan which generated immediate attention.[4]
Smith's modeling career especially took off after he dyed his hair platinum blond at his agent's advice.[5][6] By 2015, he had shot a dozen magazine covers[7] and fronted fashion campaigns for Philipp Plein and Tom Ford.[8] He and several other models appeared in Tom Ford's fashion video with Lady Gaga for SS16.[9] Smith has walked for labels such as Tom Ford, Versace, Michael Kors, Etro and Bottega Veneta. He has also been featured in campaigns for CK One (photographed by Mario Sorrenti), Moncler (photographed by Annie Leibovitz), a Gap campaign and a Tommy Hilfiger campaign. He has also been featured in ads for Levi's and H&M and been on the cover of Harper's Bazaar.[10]
Musical career
In 2009, Smith and his three sisters, Pyper America, Starlie Cheyenne and Daisy Clementine (who are also models), formed a surf-rock band called The Atomics. Smith is the drummer and has stated that music is his real passion.[4][11] The band is also represented by NEXT.[12][13]
Reception
In 2015, Teen Vogue named Smith the "Model of the Moment".[14] A relative newcomer, he was named to Models.com's "Top 50 Male Models" for 2015[15] and had the second highest number of social media followers of all male models in the industry.[16] Many in the fashion industry acknowledge that Smith's popularity (especially among teenage girls and boys) on social media is a deciding factor for brands and editors who have hired him.[17][18]
