Lunada is the tenth studio album by Mexican recording artist Thalía. It was released through EMI Music on 24 June 2008 worldwide. Lunada is Thalía's first album since the release of the successful El Sexto Sentido in 2005 and since the birth of her first child. It was produced by the hit-maker Emilio Estefan and was supposed to be the soundtrack of the summer. The album received generally favorable reviews but did not have the expected sales as it did not receive any promotion by Thalía's record company, EMI. For this reason she ended her contract with EMI after 14 years of international success. The album is considered to be the least successful in Thalía's career.[3]
Two singles were released by this album. The first one is Ten Paciencia. The second one is Será Porque Te Amo. Thalía was also to release Sangre Caliente and Aventurero as singles, but they were canceled due to the tick-borne Lyme disease that prevented her from working during treatment.
Commercial failure and departure from EMI
Thalía had some problems with her health, so she did not promote her project as much as she wanted. Also, her record company, EMI, did not have enough budget to promote the artists and so Lunada was a commercial disappointment. For these reasons she ended her contract with EMI after 14 years of international success. Despite the fact the album was not the success everyone expected, Thalía declared that she is proud of this production and the material included on this album.[citation needed]
History
The singer described her new production as the most sincere of her music career. According to Thalía, "Sangre Caliente" is the song that best describes the whole spirit of the album. Thalía said about her album: "This album came along when I was very pregnant with my daughter. I was almost eight months along. I had had it, and the only thing I could think about were bikinis, suntan lotion, beer and the beach. So I began to think to myself, 'Hey! What was that song I liked last summer in Argentina? 'Sangre Caliente'("Hot blood")! And when I went with my friends to (the Mexican beach resort of) Ixtapa, which one was it? That's right! The one by Juan Gabriel!' ... That's how 'Lunada' was born."[citation needed]
"Bendita" was a song written by Thalía, dedicated to her daughter Sabrina Sakae.[citation needed]
Controversy
The cover art to Lunada was compared to that of Australian band Cut Copy's album Bright Like Neon Love. Both show strong similarities, including the same color to the face, similar glasses and lipstick color and overall appearance. To this, Thalía responded that this was "what had been presented to [her] by her creative group and that she hoped her work would inspire others in the future as well."[citation needed]
