MacGregor State High School (MSHS) is a co-educational, state secondary school, located in Macgregor, a southeastern suburb of Brisbane, Queensland Australia.

History

MacGregor State High School was opened in 1969 with nine teachers and 203 students. The first school principal was Mr. J.E.R. Pearson. The school was named for Sir William MacGregor, governor of Queensland from 1909 until 1914. The Clan MacGregor's Australian Chieftain, Mrs Jean McGregor-Lowndes, was its first patron, and many of the school's icons and emblems reflect a Scottish theme.[1]

On 4 November 1973 at 6:30 pm, a tornado struck the school, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage which resulted in the rebuilding of a large proportion of the school.[1]

In November 2006, a video was uploaded to the website Youtube, containing footage of a fight between school students from Macgregor State High.[2][3] before being removed from the site at the request of the Queensland Department of Education. In August 2007, the video re-appeared on Channel 7 news, the full copy was sent in by an unknown student with full audio instead of the rap music portrayed in the previous Youtube video.[3]

In February 2009, a video was aired on Channel 7 Australia showing students from Macgregor involved in a melee. After the fight ensued two youths in casual clothes produced a machete threatening the students that confronted them. Education Queensland promised a crack down on students uploading fight videos to youtube sites. [4]
