Production
Development
On May 9, 2019, CBS renewed MacGyver for a thirteen episode fourth season that would air mid-season in the 2019–20 United States network television schedule.[20] It was later revealed that the season would premiere on February 7, 2020.[21] On November 6, 2019, it was announced that nine additional episodes had been ordered bringing the season to a full season of twenty-two episodes.[22]
Filming
The series continues to be produced in Atlanta, Georgia, filming at Mailing Avenue Stageworks in Chosewood Park.[23]
On March 13, 2020, it was announced that production on the fourth season had been shut down due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic reducing the season's original episode order from 22 to 20. However the episodes filmed beyond episode 13 will air at a later date.
Casting
The season features six starring roles, four of which returned from the first season. Levy Tran was promoted to series regular after recurring in the previous season. Henry Ian Cusick will also join the main cast.[24]
