Mallory Burdette (born January 28, 1991) is an American professional tennis player.

Personal life

She will be a senior at Stanford University in the fall of 2012.

Career

Burdette competed at the 2011 US Open double tournament, where she received together with her partner Hilary Barte a wildcard. In the first round, they beat Alexa Glatch/Jamie Hampton, both from the United States, 6–4, 6–4[2] – before advancing to the second round, where they lost 6–2, 3–6, 6–3 against Andreja Klepač from Slovenia and Anna Tatishvili from Georgia.[3]

2012

Burdette received a wildcard into the main draw of the 2012 Bank of The West Classic in Stanford. In the first round, she was drawn against Anne Keothavong. Burdette, having lost the first set 2–6, defeated her 7–5, 6–4.[4] In the second round, she was pitted against Marion Bartoli. Burdette lead the first set 5–3, before Bartoli held back, and won 5–7, 0–6.[5][6]

A week after her second round defeat in Stanford, on 16 July, Burdette headed to compete in her first ITF event, a $10,000 hard court tournament held in Evansville. She qualified for the main draw following three straight-set victories.[7] Burdette knocked out sixth seed Sally Peers in her first round match, winning 6–0, 6–1. After beating fellow qualifier, Naomi Osaka, by the same scoreline, she proceeded to knock out third seed Bojana Bobusic, 6–3, 6–2, to progress to the semi-final. Another 6–3, 6–2 victory, this time against Julia Elbaba, meant Burdette had reached her first final on the ITF circuit. She faced no. 1 seed, Ying-Ying Duan, in the final, winning the match 6–1, 6–2.[7][8] Burdette did not drop a single set throughout the tournament.[9]

The following week, Burdette headed to Lexington to compete in a $50,000 hard court tournament, on a wildcard. She defeated no. 1 seed Olivia Rogowska, 6–3, 6–4, in the first round. She took her winning streak to ten when she defeated Jessica Pegula, 7–5, 6–0, to progress to the third round. However, her unbeaten run was ended in the third round when she was defeated, 3–6, 0–6, by Madison Keys.[10]

In the first week of August 2012, Burdette was a wildcard entry in the $100,000 Odlum Brown Vancouver Open. She defeated lucky loser Sherazad Benamar in straight sets in the opening round, before beating Olga Savchuk, 6–0, 6–3 the following day. In the quarter finals, Burdette beat Olivia Rogowska for the second time in as many weeks, winning 7–5, 6–4. A 6–2, 6–3 win over Chichi Scholl secured Burdette's place in the final. Another straight sets victory in the final, 6–3, 6–0, over Jessica Pegula, gave Burdette her second ITF title within the space of a month.[11] Similar to her first tournament win in Evansville, she won the title without dropping a set.[11] As a result of the win in Vancouver, Burdette earned a main draw wildcard for the 2012 US Open.[12]
