History

Until 25 May 1939, functions of the Ministry of Maritime Fleet USSR were carried out by the People's Commissariat of Water Transport of the USSR, which was responsible for both maritime and river fleets of the USSR.[1]

The structure of the People's Commissariat of Maritime Fleet USSR as a separate people's commissariat was confirmed by a decree of the Council of Ministers USSR on 25 May 1939. On 15 March 1946, the People's Commissariat of Maritime Fleet USSR was changed to the Ministry of Maritime Fleet USSR by decree of the Supreme Soviet, at the time that all people's commissariats were changed to ministries.[1]

March 15, 1953 Minmorflot was united with Ministry of River Fleet of the USSR in one Ministry: Ministry of Maritime and River Fleet of the USSR.[citation needed]

As per Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR dated August 25, 1954,[2] The Ministry of Maritime and River Fleet of the USSR was re-established on August 25, 1954, when the Ministry of Maritime Fleet and Ministry of River Fleet of the USSR was divided again.[citation needed]
