Monitronics International a known telemarketer, robocaller and telescammer, was founded in 1994 and is one of the three largest security alarm monitoring companies in the United States. Headquartered in Dallas, the company provides burglar and fire alarm monitored security system services to more than 800,000 residential and commercial customers throughout the United States.[1][2]

Monitronics offers telephone land line alarm monitoring as well as cellular phone alarm monitoring.[3] Approximately 400 Authorized Dealers sell, install and service its security systems and related equipment to residential and commercial customers. Monitronics monitors its clients' accounts at the company's Five Diamond Certified central monitoring station in Dallas.[4][5]

History

Investment firm ABRY Partners owned more than half of Monitronics[4] until it was sold to Ascent Media Corporation in December 2010.[6]

Operations

Monitronics' national monitoring operations center is located at the Valley View Tech Center (2300 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas) -- located south and west of the headquarters' office building.

Monitronics sells their services in multi-month contracts, starting at 36 months. Customers are committed for that period of time without ability to cancel. While the system can track many operations in the home, it does not track when the unit is not operational, whether for 30 days or 4 years. You are not required to be the homeowner to obligate the household.

Awards and recognition

Monitronics was cited by SDM Magazine as a Top 100 company consistently since 2002, ranking it as one of the three largest security alarm monitoring companies in the United States.[7]

Frost & Sullivan awarded Monitronics International the 2008, 2010 and 2011 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Service Provider of the Year, recognizing operational skill and attracting and retaining key dealer accounts.[8] It also named Monitronics the 2010 Company of the Year.[9]

In 2011, Monitronics received the Industry False Reduction Award from the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA) for significantly reducing false alarms (0.67 percent to 0.5 percent) through several major programs.

Celebrity spokespersons

Chuck Liddell has appeared at Monitronics booths at industry conferences, and more recently, NFL greats Deion Sanders and Michael Strahan served as spokespersons for Monitronics at ISC West.[10]
